C.P. Paterno is the west end of Norfolk Southern's bypass route through the city of Erie, PA. Opened for traffic in September 2001, the new route ended over 100 years of street running, and a corresponding low-speed bottleneck, through Erie along 19th Street. The old mainline remains in place as an industrial secondary track. Crews refer to this Control Point as "JoePa".
